Yet another transition.

Here’s what we spent all evening after dinner doing: changing Will’s crib into a day/toddler bed for him! He woke up several times last night and each time I went in to get him, he had one leg hanging way over the drop rail of the crib. I am sure if I’d have let him cry it out, it would’ve only been a matter of time before he Kaboomed onto the floor. He did actually fall out of his crib by doing just this the night before we left for our post-Thanksgiving trip a couple of weeks ago.

Luckily the crib easily converts. I say “easily” but I didn’t actually do any of the work except with holding and handing a part every now and then. David is MUCH better at putting stuff together and being able to do it right! After it was all transformed (Nathan thinks it’s so cool that his brother has a Transformer bed!), Nathan helped me slide the mattress on and put the pillows back, etc. Then he and Will had fun lying down in the new bed and checking it out.

When it finally came down to put Will to bed for the night, he gave me such a confused look as I bent down to set him on the bed as if to suddenly realize that his crib didn’t quite seem right. I covered him, said goodnight and gave him a kiss.

Ten seconds later he was at his bedroom door whimpering. David and I were in our room so I went in to Will’s room and picked him up, held him for a moment, then told him he needed to go to sleep in William’s room and did the whole routine over again. He stayed but only for a couple of minutes. Then it was David’s turn to give it a go. Looks like it worked.

He’s been asleep in his room now for about ten minutes. The real test will come tonight when he wakes up at say four or five o’clock. I wonder if he’ll just sit up in his bed and cry or actually make his way over to my room and try to climb into bed with me. Well, at least I won’t have to get out of bed anymore to get him, if in fact that’s what he does!

This is all so new for me. Nathan slept in his crib until shortly before Will was even born! And even when he finally moved to a toddler bed, he would always wait for us to come in and get him before he just climbed out of bed! I am definitely raising two different boys and Will is clearly growing up way too fast for me…..sniff, sniff.
