Today was my turn at hosting playgroup so I had planned for us to meet at David’s mom’s neighborhood pool since they have a way-super-cool waterslide. You might imagine my disappointment today when I realized it was only going to be seventy degrees – at best. What the heck happened to stinkin’ hot summers? It’s almost the middle of June, weather gods. Get with it!
Anyway, the plan was to meet at 11 a.m. when the pool opened. I toted along pineapples, grapes, and some organic sugar cookies that I’d picked up earlier in the week at Sam’s. I also brought along some lemonade and apple juice for the kiddos. We all brought lunches to have while we sat poolside.
It took Nathan all of about two minutes to throw his clothes off, get the floaties on, and all of a sudden someone was announcing that it was Nathan at the top of the slide getting ready to go down. By himself. Mind you, he hasn’t been on that slide since sometime last summer and he certainly didn’t go by himself back then. He did however, get some practice going down waterslides alone while we were at Disney in April. Our hotel had a really cool one that only single riders could enjoy.
So I turned and watched him slide down yelling the whole way down then he catapulted into the water, his head sunk down for a brief moment, and then he was back – smiling from ear to ear. He doggie paddled to the edge and came up the steps of the pool then turned and went right back up the steps to the slide to go down again. He was shivering but had a blast! He must’ve gone down that slide about twenty-five times while we were there. He was the only kiddo in our group to even GO down the slide but it didn’t phase him. He was just having so much fun. I was glad we went to the pool, despite the low temperature. We may try and go back on Sunday if the kids are up for it. I think it should be fairly warm.
Will, hater of baths, was doing well too. He walked right into the pool on the shallow end and was fine with getting wet. Until he fell down on his bottom in the pool and got his shirt soaked. After that point, I dried him off and he was all about trying to eat off of everyone else’s lunch.
All of the other kids in our playgroup got in the pool too. We moms wanted nothing to do with it though. Too cold for my blood but the kids had a great time and that’s really all that matters, I suppose.
