Today was full of things gone weird. First off, it was supposed to be a beautiful day but as the morning got started for the T household, we all knew different. By the time Nathan was ready to leave for preschool, only the overcast was evident outside and I knew that the after school playdate with Nathan’s classmates at the park would have to be postponed. Bummer. Actually it’s a double bummer for us because the playdate has been rescheduled for next Friday, but we’ll not be able to go then either because we’ll likely be somewhere inside Magic Kingdom. Wait. What am I saying? How is that a bummer for us?! It’s not. I am one hundred percent sure that Nathan would much rather be at Disney World than at Quivira Park next Friday. And, if not well, too bad!

Okay, anyway, back to my post. So the weather today started out crappy which in turn changed our plans for the day. Thing #2 that went wrong today: I knew I had a conference call scheduled at 1 p.m. so my plan was to pick up Nathan from school at 11:30, head home for a quick lunch and conference call, then go shoe shopping because the boys need shoes desperately before we head to Florida. Plus the BOGO sale would be over by then and I only shop Stride Rite during BOGO sales. Well, after picking up Nathan from school, we head home and I get the call from the person I was supposed to have the call with at 1 p.m. She tells me something’s come up so she needs to push our call back to around 3 p.m. Shoot. Okay, change of plans. I tell her that’s fine and we hang up. The kids and I finish up lunch and then head out for the shoe store. First we make a pit stop at Wild Oats for next week’s snack at school since it’s our turn to bring it, [yes, I am a little ahead of the game, I know but by Wednesay of next week I’ll be so busy packing for our trip so it’s better if I get the snack thing out of the way right now] and vitamins for the kids. Picking out shoes with them was a breeze! Nathan knew just what he wanted and I liked the pair he chose, so it was a win-win. Will was so cooperative at trying on two pairs but finally when given the choice between them, he made it painfully obvious he wanted these little rugged cuties. Happy kids. Happy mom. Done.

Afterwards, I thought I’d take the boys next door to the cookie shop for a sweet treat since it’s been a while that we’ve been able to do something fun like that. They of course picked out the iced sugar cookies with sprinkles on top. We had fun sitting in the shop and talking while they enjoyed their cookies. Before long it was time to head home for naps and my lovely conference call. After nap time we decided to go outside and do sidewalk chalk where we drew all kinds of fun stuff like ice cream cones, choo-choo trains, starfish, peach trees, flowers, and beach scenes.
