I had today all planned out and it was jam-packed with stuff I really needed to get done. Well, that plan went into the toilet early this morning at about 5 a.m. when N8 woke up with a 102.5 degree temperature. He had slept in our bed last night as a treat and all of a sudden I awoke to this fire-hot foot poking up against my back. I immediately sat up in bed and felt him for a temp.
We administered the cherry Tylenol and some juice to wash it down with and all went back to bed. I knew at that point that in just a couple of hours, when I was going to get up to start the day, that it was going to end up playing out very differently that what was planned.
So I showered and got dressed then got Will dressed for his first day back at 9 a.m. Kindermusik. I had told David that since N8 obviously wasn’t going to school today that he’d have to stay here till Will and I could return from KM which would be about 10 or so. I went downstairs to make three phone calls – one to the preschool informing them that N8 was not going to be there for school or for Lunch Bunch (extended day), which he has been looking SO forward to for weeks! One call was to Erin to give her the head’s up that he wouldn’t be there so she could prepare Alexander. I figured that since the class was having a sub today that it may be a little weird without Ms. Jan and Nathan! Then I called another friend of mine with whom I had plans this afternoon (which is why N8 was going to be in Lunch Bunch to begin with) to cancel. Bummer. We’re going to try again next week though. N8 was still asleep when I left.
Will and I had a great time at KM. He did a lot of giggling while playing with the see-thru scarf and with all the bouncing and dancing. He also spent quite a bit of time wooing Sadie and Elena there. He’s a regular charmer, and I’m afraid the touchy-feely type like me, too. Could be worse, though.
As soon as class was over, we dashed outta there so I could hurry home so that David could in turn get going to work. When I walked in David was making pancakes for a happy N8 and I finished up. They turned out yummy! They were the ones from Knott’s Berry Farms I had bought during that after Christmas sale. N8, Will and I sat down for pancakes – Will’s second breakfast of the day.
So here we are spending the day at home, which is a rareity these days. I still have a bunch of junk I really needed to get off my to-do list today, one of which has a drive-thru option so I may still pack up the kids and get in the car to run that errand. We’ll see. Sick kiddos really throw your day for a loop though – it stinks.
