I went to “observe” a few classrooms today at the Montessori we have a spot at for Nathan. When the Assistant Director introuduced me to each classroom as being an “observer”, I got to thinking that it wasn’t an accurate way to describe what I was doing AT ALL.
What was really going on is totally judgmental. They should call it coming into the school for judgement, really. As I sat and watched teachers, assistants and students, I am all the while judging them on a variety of factors. Every move they make is suddenly scrutinized. So much so that even I am uncomfortable. I feel naughty! Like, “who am I to judge these people?”
Anyway it was just an interesting way of thinking about things as I sat and watched everything. Yes, judgement is a human sin that we try so desperately to rid ourselves of, but unfortunately, it’s present in everyday life. Sigh.
