First Grade.

Today was Nathan's first day back to school — for FIRST grade!  Not sure how this happened SO fast but we're embracing it.  I popped into his room at about 6:30 this morning and went to sit on his bed to try and wake him up but he popped his head right up and leaned over to kiss and hug me with a HUGE grin on his face! I truly know what his preschool teacher meant when she always said his excitement is contagious!

He immediately got out of bed, brushed his teeth, got dressed, and I helped comb his hair.  Then we headed downstairs where our yummy breakfast cupcakes were awaiting us.  After breakfast I conducted our usual first-day-of-school interview.  I wonder what grade Nathan will be in before he decides to make a stink about doing these? So far, though, he's a willing participant.

After pictures and hugs and a LOT of jumping around the house, we headed out the door for the big first day!

Nathan is so excited that he's got lots of new friends in his class he'll be playing flag football with.  And his friends Gabe & Nicholas are his class too!  He's got a super cool lineup of folks to share the year with.

When I picked him up from today (which was a half-day), he excitedly told me the best part of the day was taking his new friend, Caden, on a school tour since he is new this year.  Then, of course, it was that he played tag at recess with Nicholas.  He also told me that when they went around and shared drawings as a class, he drew about our recent trip this past weekend to Schlitterbahn.

He said that he thinks this year will be very different from Kindergarten because he will be learning all about himself and his classmates. What insight! We are all very excited for him and for this year—we know it will be a positive and productive one!

  1. Very happy to hear he had a great first day! I also have a 1st-grader this year. He had been excited and looking forward to first grade until I told him there would be no snacks or naps this year. He was bummed out, but got over it quickly once he was back with his friends.
