Halloween recap.

Will’s first Halloween was frightfully fun-filled. We started out by going to N8’s class Halloween party this morning. Actually, the kids walked in a costume parade first. Nathan had been talking ALL morning about the parade….he LOVES parades and I think he felt especially important that HE was going to be in one!

The kiddos then posed for a class photo op with their lovely teacher.

They had class for most of the morning then we moms headed back up for the festivities at about 10:30 a.m. The party was put on by a few of the moms in the class and went extremely well. By the time I had arrived to join the class party, N8 had taken his costume off. I guess he’d decided he didn’t want to be his superhero self for the party. Anyway, I told Erin I was glad I had decided to put shorts on underneath his costume because all the other times he’s worn it he’s just gone with undies!

The kids enjoyed a tasty snack….cookies decorated with wafers and such to look like little scarecrow faces. I know it was hard for N8 not to begin eating his treat till all of his classmates were served, but he did okay.

Then it was off to make a couple of crafts. First was a foamie Halloween necklace. That’s N8 sitting next to his bud, Sydney. He talks about her ALL the time!

Then it was off to decorate a cute treat bag with stickers, stamps and such.

Finally, the class headed over to the gym to play a game of pumpkin bowling, whereby kids rolled baby “mini” pumpkins and attempted to knock down empty water bottles setup like bowling pins. They were all great at it although they did have some trouble getting the whole “stand in line and wait your turn” thing down.

Nathan and I came home and had lunch then enjoyed the tootsie pop treat he had received from Ms. Melody (the preschool director) earlier that day. N8 was quite fascinated that both of our tongues were blue.

Then it was off to naptime since I knew N8 would have to be up earlier than usual from his nap so that we could get dinner and head out for trick-or-treating. We took the kids to CiCi’s Pizza, one of N8’s faves and then came home to change into costumes.

David’s grand plan this year since it was really cold out, was for me to drive and he and N8 would get out and hit up all the houses. It was a blast!

Here is a pic of Will’s first trick-or-treating experience with our next door neighbors, Bob & Sharon.

Okay, I don’t know who enjoys hittin’ people up for candy more, Nathan or David. They had so much fun. When I’d roll the car window down while outside a few of the houses, I would hear David say, “Okay, Nathan, don’t forget to say ‘thank you’ and ‘happy halloween’.” It was really cute. Manners, manners, always manners!

So after hitting up the houses around here (which had a TON of candy, I must say!), we decided it made good sense to head over to the Trunk or Treat event at N8’s preschool. David thought it was a good candy-gettin’ strategy since you didn’t have to walk house to house but rather car to car and get a ton of loot! He was right! There were tons of treats and even a great game of kiddie basketball.

There was even a man there giving out candy AND a toy! He had a bucket full of individually wrapped McDonald’s Happy Meal toys and Nathan picked up another – you guessed it – Lightning McQueen!! Now he’s got a small, medium, and large one! Anyway we stayed there a bit and then decided to head home with our stash.

Here the guys are checkin’ out their loot!

David was busy putting his favorites aside saying “oh, Nathan, you won’t like this” or “you won’t like that!” It was too funny! Then a funny thing happened while I was going through what David had set aside for himself. I noticed there was a square shaped piece of candy and I read the label and said, “Hmmm…all natural chocolate….cool.” David suddenly jerked his head, looked up at me and said, “What?? All NATURAL?? Awww, forget that…I don’t want that!” I just cracked up. That is so like David….he wants the extra unhealthy stuff! Dude, it was funny…you just had to be there.

So we had come home about 7:30 pm and it was just about 8 pm when David looked up at me from sorting candy and said, “I don’t think we got enough!” I asked him if he wanted to go out for some more and he turned to Nathan to ask if he was up for it. When N8 said he was then David told him that we should go out till at least 8:30 and see what else we could get. So, we all headed back out and hit a few cul-de-sacs in our ‘hood and got some more loot.

We came back at about 8:20 and all sat down to enjoy the Curious George movie and munched on candy. I kindly told Nathan that he is so lucky to have such an easygoing Daddy who had five minutes earlier told him he could have as much candy as he wanted on Halloween night. It was such a fun evening!
