Yesterday before leaving for errands I had sat Will down on top of the washer to put his shoes on before walking out the door. Nathan was standing in front of the dryer just patiently waiting for us to wrap up. All of a sudden he looks up at me and points to the dryer door and asks:

“Mommy, does that say ‘heavy duty’?”

I of course, was like “WTF??!!” Then, I confirmed, telling him that our dryer did indeed read ‘heavy duty’ and that he was such a great reader! I was shocked to say the least and in all the years we’ve had that dryer have never even noticed that it stated that on the door. Sheesh!

Then, there’s a whole other incident that occurred later that day. First off, the birthday party saga continues. Nathan changes his mind just about every time you ask him where he wants to celebrate his fourth birthday at. We had thought it was all decided on earlier this week when we’d actually made the reservation. Then, while we were out yesterday he decided yet again where he wanted to have a party. While we were stopped in the median waiting to make a turn, I all of a sudden hear Nathan say from the back seat:

“Hey, mommy, that looks like a great restaurant there. It’s called Hot Wok. We should go there for lunch.”

I immediately looked in my side mirror and saw that there was indeed a restaurant there called Hot Wok. I was pretty sure though that I didn’t want to go there for lunch. I don’t know what was so appealing about it; I certainly wouldn’t have referred to it as something that looked “great”. Nonetheless, I praised for the great reading skills and didn’t really think anything more of it.

Well, later on that day while at home discussing his upcoming party, I was asking him if he was getting excited about having his party at the place we had decided on. It was then that he turned to me and said:

“No, I think I want to have my party at Hot Wok.”

I busted out laughing. I then had to explain to him that somehow I didn’t think Daddy would be too keen on that idea, plus, there probably wasn’t anything even remotely fun to do there. He dismissed it and thankfully hasn’t brought it up again.

And, on another note, David and I can no longer use spelling words as a means to communicate in Nathan’s presence because he made clear last week during one of our conversations by paying attention and spelling the words out to figure out what we’re talking about. Freakin’ smarty pants.
