Hard to believe my first-born Nathan has just turned seven years old. I looked over at my husband the other day over dinner and said to him, "How'd YOU get to have a seven year-old?!" He just shook his head.
I never in a million years would have imagined the two of us creating the most beautiful family that we have together. Just seventeen years ago we walked the halls of our high school, passing notes to one another, making plans for our off-campus lunch, and looking forward to weekend fun. It totally seems like just last week.
Now, here we are with a SEVEN year-old son! A son who is as beautiful inside as he is outside. Smart. Funny. Caring. Sensitive. Brave. Sentimental. Excited. Enthusiastic. Perfect.
Seven is such a right-of-passage in my book. Perhaps this is why Nathan insisted on a sleepover party for his special birthday. David and I happily obliged (what's better than being able to stay home and having it count as a birthday party?!).
The kids had what is known as beyond fun. But first, Nathan enjoyed opening up a very special package that his Auntie had sent over for his birthday gift. Yes, he opened it up while speaking to her all the way from her home in France.
The comic books that he's been peeking in and out of ever since. (Don't you love how little Jacob is eager to see what's in there, too?!)
Then it was time for 'da boys to come over. Let me just say there was no sleeping at this sleepover. And these boys played so nicely together and kept David and I in stitches all night long. Such a treat to see them interact with each other.
So although it's a little bittersweet to see you, Nathan, my first-born baby growing up, I am excited at all the possiblities that lie ahead. I'm so grateful to have been chosen to borrow you in this lifetime. I love you more than you'll EVER be able to comprehend.
