2 Hour Outing

Well, today i had my first outing with both kids by myself (since my mother left on Saturday…sniff…sniff). We all piled into the car and headed over to where else?? Target, of course. I really only had about ten things to get but the entire trip took 2 hours!! WOW! I don’t know how anyone does it with more than two kids, really.

After waiting for an elderly lady to unload her cart into her car so that i could get into her good parking space, i put both boys in the big jumbo toddler cart. It was one of those that has like the plastic double bucket seat in the front that is then connected to a full size cart. I strapped n8 in and then placed Will’s carseat (minus the base of course) into the front basket part. It was then that i really realized that Target and every other store for that matter, should have hooks at the front of their carts for moms to hang purses, diaper bags, keys, etc. Anyway, i squished my purse down at the side of Will’s carseat and then placed the diaper bag – which i’ll now have to get used to getting off with me EVERYWHERE again – at n8’s feet, which he then used as a foot rest.

I proceeded to haul the hugely heavy cart contraption into the store. It was loud and annoying, but i didn’t care. I dared anyone to look at me! It’s amazing, i don’t know how i mustered the strength to maneuver the darn thing. It was HEAVY!! It was like driving a tank. It reminded me of our old burgundy Buick that my mom drove when i was a kid.

So after making our way inside the store (finally!) we of course headed over to get popcorn so n8 would stay occupied in his new cart. By the way, he loved getting to ride in the big plastic toddler seat, even was okay with the straps on him! After popcorn we headed over the bank which is also conveniently located in Target, which i love! N8 of course had to ask the teller for his usual sticker. The teller gave him two. (Yippee!) Those CapFed people are so nice!

Now it was time to get to the things on the list. Naturally, Will began to cry and wake up from his little nap so we headed over to the food court area again where i proceeded to nurse him (discreetly, of course) while n8 sat in the cart and continued to eat his popcorn. We did manage to play a quick round of “Deal or No Deal” while i was sitting and n8 was waiting for me. I am sure it was quite amusing for anyone who was watching. “Deal or No Deal” has become one of n8’s favorite t.v. shows in general and he enjoys watching it with David and I. We have each episode DVRd so we can watch it with David when he gets home from work.

With Will’s tummy now content, we head on over to the bathrooms where i find a nicely soiled bottom on him. N8 is still patiently strapped into the cart eating his popcorn and waiting for us to finish up. I place Will back in his seat and we proceed to get our items on the list (and of course, a few extras). On the way to pay Will becomes fussy again so we make our way back to the food court area where i nurse him yet again, only to have him fall asleep. I quickly put him back in his seat and make a beeline for the registers.

WHEW! Finally….we check out, make it out to the car, i unload the goods into the back of my car and then unload the kiddos. That was seriously the most intense Target run i’ve ever made.
