Nathan and William sure scored big-time with a Daddy like David. The #1 Dad ball cap Nathan picked out for him last year for Father’s Day sums it all up. David’s a #1 Dad for a number of reasons. I’ve never met a man who works so hard to provide and care for his family more than David. Not only does he work so hard in business, but he works hard as a dad.
Nate & Will always know that when Daddy’s around, there’s always playing to be done. With his super athletic abilities, he plays baseball, football, golf, soccer and all kinds of sports with his boys. He has tremendous patience when it comes to dealing with them, and I SO admire that! Not once have I EVER seen him lose it with them.
Just a few of the little traditions Daddy has with the boys:
- Playtime before work, including lots of kisses and hugs.
- Our Saturday lunches where Nathan gets to choose where we eat (at least, most of the time).
- Reading books before bedtime and then staying with Nathan in bed until he falls fast asleep.
- Playing “zucchini juice” and “KA-CHOW” with the boys on a moments notice. Zucchini juice is where David picks them up (one by one, alternating, of course) in a cradle hold and spins them forcefully and rapidly all while chanting, “zuuuuchini juice!”. KA-CHOW is quite different. One at a time he picks them up then tosses them up, up, up to the ceiling yelling, “KA-CHOW!” Arms and legs are filailing all about and laughter fills the room.
- Always offering to play “hold tight”, a.k.a Nathan gets a piggyback ride, usually either up or down stairs.
- Playing race, trains, hide ‘n seek, board games, robots, airplanes, and any other activity that Mommy’s too tired to play at that time.
- Daddy and Nathan taking a shower together and playing firefighters with the showerhead.
- Daddy loves to take the kiddos baths whenever he’s home and able to. It’s always so much fun for Mommy to clean up the water afterwards.
He’s encouaging, inspiring, smart, funny, easy-going, loving, generous, and always up for the challenge Daddy-hood. He loves to create memories and traditions within our family and will do just about anything to make his kids smile (ahem, can you say Walt Disney World?) What a wonderful man you are to lead our family the way that you do, David and we are so blessed to have you in our lives.
In the words spoken by your oldest son, “you are SO cool!” Happy Father’s Day, honey!
