Special Bathtime Rituals with Baby #SoMuchMore

Before I became a mom, I never really put too much thought into how much meaning the everyday mundane tasks of parenting would become the very traditions and memories that my kids would grow to cherish. But, looking back on my own childhood, it was mostly those everyday rituals that made our family, our family!

Bath and bedtime rituals are right up there with what my kids will remember when they look back on how they grew up. They’ll remember the way we would all gather in our own master bathroom while one of them brushed their teeth, the other one showered or bathed, and yet another one gathered the clothes he needed for school the next day.

And yes, I’m pretty sure they’ll even recall the products they used and that were around the bathroom as we pushed through this eventful family ritual of bath and bedtime.

What’s amazing about all of this is that these rituals begin when kids are just babies. I truly believe they thrive on the structure and routine of it all. And as a mom, making these family rituals memorable, meaningful, and fun, is something I truly am privileged to be able to do. Did you know ● that the sensory effects of bath time stay with babies long after bath time is over? This is according to the JOHNSON’S® Global Baby Bath Report

When my boys were just babies, I remember bathing each of them in a baby tub over between the long sink of the jack-and-jill style bathroom. I’d watch them react to the water being slowly poured over their full heads of dark, thick hair, and I’d take a little baby brush and gently massage their scalps with Johnson’s® baby shampoo. After finishing off their quick bath, I’d reach for the nearest hooded towel – sometimes a frog, monkey, or duck – and gently pick them up and swoop them into their nursery’s padded changing table for some laughing, singing, and of course Johnson’s® baby lotion. That smell of of baby is so nostalgic for me and I will always think of it fondly!

Bath time is usually the time for winding down, thinking about the good, the bad, and yes, even the ugly, that the day brought on. But then, it’s all washed away and a fresh start is visibly on the horizon. Bath time is where it all comes together for kids and their parents.

The last few squeezes and kisses are eagerly received and yes, there’s a song and maybe even a story (or two, or three) involved.  For me, the innocence of childhood is intricately woven in the delightful rituals of bath and bedtime – both as a kid who once was and a parent who now is.

What are some of your most favorite bath and bed time rituals that you experience with your own children?
