Recently I read about parents holding Swine Flu parties in order to get their kids exposed to the virus while the strain is still weak.  I was stunned.  If you ask me, that's a pretty weak thing to do to your kids.

Not only is it ridiculous to assume that getting them sick on the flu now will result in a milder case, but it sets the wrong example for the kids.

"Yeah, let's go to a party, NOT wash our hands, AND share drinks with all of our germ-infested friends!"…… Not exactly what I've been preaching to my kids lately and not exactly how I want them to view appropriate social etiquette!  Please.  I'd much prefer they just run their tongue along the back of the church pew!  At least the germs there would be blessed, eh?

So what are your thoughts?  Do you think these Swine Flu parties are ok? Have you been invited to one? And moreover, would you send your kids to attend one?

So far we haven’t been invited, either. You’re not the only ones. While I believe natural immunity to things like this is good, it still seems wrong to try and have my kids get sick. On purpose. They do a good enough job on without my help.

That sounds like a horrible idea. I think we could have hosted a party a month or so ago and I would certainly never knowingly put my kids in the position to get sick on purpose, especially with something like this.

That’s sick in more way than one. Kids still have died from it right? I’m going to send my son to a gang initiation before he becomes a teenager, you know, just in case…

Great way to put that into perspective! Love the gang initiation analogy!
