Yesterday while enjoying lunch at Chick-fil-a, a lady made her way over to our booth to pay Will a compliment. First, let me set the scene.

Nathan was playing in the little play area so it was just Will and I at the table. He was wearing a holiday themed red one piece sleep-n-play and a BLUE bib that read, “I’m the Little Brother” and had baseball bats, balls, etc all over it. He was in his high chair facing forward and I was feeding him organic butternut squash with corn (which, by the way, he DEVOURED and loves!).

So anyway, this woman walks over, takes one look at him, smiles (he smiles back at her) and then she turns her head to look at me while I am reaching with the spoon to Will’s mouth and says, “Your baby is so cute. Just beautiful. how old is SHE?”

I laughed and replied, “HE is seven months.”

She was obviously embarassed and apologized profusely, but I kept telling her it was no big deal.

Then she says to me, “babies….huh….you can never tell these days!!”

I wanted to say, “lady, can you read?? Surely the BLUE bib with the brother comment does something for ya!”

I just stared at her in confusion after her remark about not being able to tell.

Then she quickly added, “oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you!”
I was like, “no, not at all, it’s fine.” And truly, it was. Both of my boys have been labeled as being “too beautiful to be boys” before so it really wasn’t a surprise. The thing that got me was that she didn’t get it about the bib.

What a weirdo.
