This week I am pretty darn excited about heading out to Miami for a few days to attend and speak at the Hispanicize 2012 conference. I’d be lying if I said that when I first learned the conference would take place in Miami, the thought of dining deliciously didn’t cross my mind. It did. Let’s face it, peeps. There’s a reason I don’t diet or really count calories. I love food . . . plain and simple.
Food is interwoven in every family tradition I’ve ever had while I was growing up and it’s a very real part of many of the traditions I’ve started with my own kids. I can’t imagine the helpless feelings that come over parents who can’t afford to simply feed their kids. It must be heart-breaking.
But as heart-breaking as it undoubtedly is, Food Network wants us to take a look at this very real issue affecting children in this country. On Saturday April 14, 2012 at 7 p.m. (central time) they will air a new documentary about childhood hunger in America. In this 1-hour special they’ll take a first-hand look at the crisis of childhood hunger in America as it is presented through the eyes of the parents, children, activists, educators and politicians on the frontlines of the battle. The program is presented by Food Network and Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry Campaign.
