When the summer is in full swing and the temperatures are high, we can feel grateful for the warm weather and try to make the most of it. This might involve grilling food outside, entertaining our friends now that’s more acceptable and responsible, and perhaps even being productive, like taking the time to attend to our garden.

That said, we all know that there are a few feelings that aren’t so pleasant in summer. Getting out of the intensive heat can be quite important from time to time, as can making sure just occupying our homes during the day is enjoyable. This can be tough when that sense of summer stickiness overrides everything, especially on those humid days that seem to beg for a storm to balance everything out.

When you have that summertime stickiness, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and incredibly tired. It makes you lose focus, and it sometimes feels as though you can’t really enjoy the summer as you’d like to. With that in mind, let’s consider how you can avoid that summer home stickiness for the better.

Get The Air Moving

Stagnant air is one of the biggest contributors to a warm houses’ stuffy atmosphere, and so for that reason, getting the air moving is important. Fan placement is important for this (for obvious reasons), but the placement of your fans can be important. For instance, you may be able to have fans placed at an angle in each downstairs room to help the entire semi-open plan have cooler air continually moving through it. That can be something of a miracle when the sun is up and seemingly beating directly on your house and your house alone.

Getting the air moving can, of course, cool you down by virtue of how fans usually work. That in itself can help you avoid feeling that the stuffy atmosphere is getting the best of you, as it’s being ventilated away from your room at all times.

A Natural Opening Between Exterior & Interior

In the midst of the summer, closing all of the doors and shutting all of the windows is a bad idea for obvious reasons. This is perhaps justified if you live in the middle of a city or in a second-floor (or above) apartment, but if you have a suburban green space, then make the most of it!

With custom patio door solutions, you can make sure that both the outside has access to the inside, and the inside has access to the outside. This means you can enjoy the sun while still sitting in your living room, enjoying the additional ventilation that comes with that. This also helps the home feel more spacious, open, enjoyable, and worth spending time in. For that reason, it can be tremendously comfortable to occupy, even in the midst of a scorching heatwave.

Cushions & Comforts

It’s a great idea to consider the home comforts you utilize in the middle of summer, and how they could be altered. For instance, if you have a leather sofa, sitting on it when sweating and somewhat hot can feel quite gross, to use a colloquial term. Anyone who has peeled themselves off a leather armchair in the summer knows that feeling, and we apologize for making you relive it.

Using blankets that are easily washable, cushion covers that offer the same, and protecting your furniture from boisterous, sweaty children can also be a good idea. Setting some ground rules, like not allowing juice or concentrated drinks in your living room with shag carpet, can help too, despite how your children may love running around and in the garden at this time. Floor protectors such as cheaper rugs can also help with outdoor to indoor grass stains, and mats can take debris off the shoes of those coming in and out during a home-run social event.

Refreshments As Necessary

Of course, it can be nice to have a few refreshments on hand to make sure everyone is hydrated in the midst of the summer. You may decide to purchase a mini-fridge for use on your outside porch or staging area, or perhaps just purchase large pitcher jugs to ensure everyone has access to refreshments when necessary.

It can also be a nice idea to purchase a few coolers for when you entertain, so everyone can come together and enjoy socializing rather than having to go in and out for something to drink. In this way, you not only provide, but you ensure everyone stays healthy.

With this advice, we hope you can more easily avoid that ‘summer home stickiness.’
