Today I took the boys for a stroll down on the Plaza. Since one of Kansas City's hot spots, I figured I needed to start acquainting them with their hometown and all that it has to offer. They really enjoyed seeing all the fountains and water everywhere. But, what we specifically went down there for was for the fourth annual Dragon Boat Festival. Of course, the kids totally pictured this festival like the one that was shown during a recent episode of Ni-Hao Kai Lan. I had to explain to them that the weren't actually going to be in the dragon boat races, but they would at least be able to watch them. Little did I know that the festival would actually have land races that the kids could participate in. Nathan's team slaughtered their opponents.
It was so hot outside but the kids were enjoying themselves so much. They got to make these cool little Chinese Word Books that will help them practice writing and saying Chinese words and symbols.
There were lots of other cool hands-on activities for them to do like make their own medallion and their very own origami dragon boats!
I think they mostly just liked hanging out and playing with everything at the festival though. We'll definitely be going back next year!
