The nursery is one of the most fun rooms to decorate in the house when you have a new baby on the way. You already know that the baby will be sleeping with you until they’re six months old, but that doesn't mean that you can’t enjoy decorating and keeping all of their clothes and things in there!

This room is one that will need to be decorated and ready, and what better way to spend your downtime before the little one arrives? You have a lot of choices to make with your child’s nursery, from the boho decor and color therapy choices to the furniture that you decide goes into the space. There are options, of course – there are always options – but it’s the colors that you should be thinking about first. The color of the nursery is important as it can turn an empty shell of a room into a peaceful sleeping space for a new baby unfamiliar with the world. So, with this in mind, let’s focus on the colors that you should consider when decorating your nursery.

  1. Go with blue. Blue in a range of pastels and colors can really have a calming impact on the nursery you have. Exposure to blue has been known to lower blood pressure and help the mind and body relax – exactly what you want for your child! They feel less anxiety and they have a sleep-centered space that is enhanced by the hues of blue everywhere. You can go for a feature wall and blue accessories, or you can choose to make the entire space a blue one!

  2. Gentle green. Green is seen as a neutral color to paint a nursery, but there are so many shades to choose from. If you want a rich color, pick an emerald green accented by a range of lighter greens. If you want to go gentle, choose pastels and drops of green throughout the nursery instead. It’s reflective of nature, instilling a sense of security and groundedness. It’s also associated with health, wellbeing and healing. Light greens brighten a small nursery but the darker, earthy greens are those that balance well.

  3. Purple power. When we say purple, we mean the soft, pastel purple more than we mean the deep purples. It’s a color associated with magic and wisdom, and it’s something that adds softness to a nursery, which is pretty much what you want for a new baby in your life. You want them to have magic and wisdom in their life, and purple is going to be a positive influence in their nursery. Don't go too dark if you want to avoid that gloomy look, and choose a purple that will make the room bright and airy.

  4. Go with white. Softness is the goal with the nursery and a soft white is one of the best ways that you can make that happen. A soft white nursery is going to offer your baby a sleep space that feels angelic and innocent. It’s a good color to use when you want to add flowers and plants around the room, too.

  5. Natural wooden tones. Don't underestimate the earthy warmth and timeless beauty of natural wooden tones in your nursery when creating an aesthetically pleasing space for your little one to thrive and flourish in. Incorporating wooden elements from cribs and shelving to charming playthings can provide a soothing ambience; Amish furniture stands out for its fine craftsmanship and durability, making an excellent investment. Pairing these wooden tones with soft colors or even white can create a harmonious balance. The textured grains and the inherent richness of wood evoke a connection to nature.
