Chew on this.

See that missing piece at the top of the glass?  W decided to take a bite out of it today during our afternoon snack time.  Apparently, his chocolate chip Clif bar wasn't tasty enough.

There I was, sitting at the table with he and N, playing a funny voice game with them when all of a sudden I look over and W takes a huge chunk out of his glass.  I freakin' freaked.  Literally.  I didn't know what to do so I yelled out, "NOOOO!" of course then proceded to try and get W to spit everything out of his mouth onto the table.  I immediately scooped him up and took him over to the sink where I reached in attempting to sweep his mouth of anything, all while instructing him to spit.  He was obviously scared at how frantic I was because he kept saying, "sawee, mommy, sawee!".  Bless his heart!

Finally I grabbed a cup out of the cabinet and filled it with tap water and told him to swish and spit out just like he does when he brushes his teeth.  It was then that I noticed droplets of blood coming from his mouth.  He had punctured the pointy part of his upper lip but other than that he appeared to be in the clear.

After rinsing I gave him a good once-over and applied pressure with my paper towel over his lip which was still bleeding by this point.  I then got on the phone with the doctor's office who reassured me that I reacted very appropriately and that it was probably highly unlikely that he swallowed any of the glass.  Of course, I'll still have to watch for blood in his stool or vomit just to be sure, but I'm optimistic it''ll be fine.

Now I know why I can't have nice drinkware in this house.

MY Poor Baby!!! That is very strange. Glass can wear out with time (dishwasher, glasses hitting each other, etc.)
XXXXX’s and OOOOO’s to my babies, especially William.
Hey! buy some aluminum glasses from At Home America! They are very nice.
