School is out here today and tomorrow, so we are enjoying some much-needed breaks from a routine! I had all these wonderful activities in mind for today but with the timing of breakfast, violin lessons, and Jacob's much needed nap, I decided to forego them and just hang out.
I was up and at 'em today and served breakfast at the crazy hour of 10 a.m.! It was so nice not have to rush in the morning and have all of my kiddies here with me while I got dressed then whipped up pancakes and bacon.
A little after 11 a.m. it was time to head for William's violin lesson. We were done around noon and headed back home. Nathan and William rushed straight for the playroom (basement) to play and hang out while I put Jacob down in his crib. Then while I was sitting enjoying the quiet while checking email and such, Nathan trots up the basement steps asking for popcorn. They hadn't had lunch yet so I suggested popcorn alongside a sandwich. They went for it!
They acted like I was Mother of the Year because I was letting them eat lunch down in the basement while watching Ratatouille on Disney channel. In fact they told me several times, "Mom, you're the best mom EVER!" I just looked down at them sitting and smiling and gave them both big hugs and kisses and told them how nice it was to just hang out and be with them today.
I look at them and realize that they won't be this way for much longer. Content with popcorn, sandwiches, and grapes while watching a Disney movie, eating on their little Lego table. Next year with William starting Kindergarten, they'll both be in school all day and these little moments will happen less and less. I'm savoring it. Enjoying it. And thankful for it.
Tomorrow, William has preschool in the morning and Nathan has a playdate with two of his buddies in the afternoon. But, I plan on taking them out for lunch and a treat just to celebrate being their mom. I cherish that so very much!
