Building better lives

As the CEO of my family, one of the most important things to me is making sure that dinner every night is a family affair. Whether it's something I've slaved over, just thrown in the crockpot earlier that day, or takeout I've picked up, it is important that we all sit and eat and exchange conversation about our day during dinner. I think because I am so on auto-pilot with this dinner thing, that it rarely even occurs to me what a blessing it is.

Enter Libby's. I've worked with them before, actually just last Fall, on a project that was so fun to be a part of, so of course I had to say "YES!" when I was recently approached with another one! I am so excited to have the opportunity to see some of my favorite local bloggers and work (literally!) with them on building a house to benefit Habitat for Humanity Kansas City.

Libby's is once again making family mealtime a reality and a priority. They are going to provide 12 Habitat for Humanity homeowners with everything they need – a dining set, place settings, and a fully-stocked pantry – to bring this simple pleasure to families in need.

The program is kicking off with a build day (tomorrow!) where I, along with several other local bloggers, will take part in building the homes that will receive the donations from Libby's. I have never done ANYTHING like this before and am so excited, humbled, and nervous!! I hope I don't hammer my finger to a piece of wood or anything!

The best part about all of this is that today as I was telling my kids about the adventure I will be on tomorrow, they got a simple glimpse of what it means to help others in need. My oldest who is 7 1/2 years old actually said to me that he wanted to come along and help and that even though he probably couldn't do much, he could surely find something to be helpful at! I was floored! I just smiled and told him to pray for those who are without and to give thanks for all that we DO have. That alone would be sufficient.

So, I am very excited to report back about the day's events after tomorrow, as I just know I will get so much out of being part of this all. I will also be tweeting with #LibbysGiving so feel free to follow along there as well! 🙂

{Disclosure: I am being compensated by Libby's for my participation in this campaign, however, the opinions and thoughts expressed herein are strictly my own! No one is the boss of me!}
