We all had such a great time! Erin, her husband and of course, Alexander came over at about 5:30 to help get the shindig going. Of course my mom and stepdad were already here. N8 was napping and david was on his way back home from working. Anyway, we were busy setting out all of the food we had. Thinking back, i wish i’d have taken a pic of it. We had this fabulous chips and salsa that Erin brought back from their Christmas trip to the Valley (in Texas). We also had our wonderful tamales (which by the way were excellent by everyone’s standards), my mom’s famous bunuelos ( a Mexican New Year’s Eve pastry tradition), chips and queso, sausage wrap thingys, and assorted other cookies, brownies, and snacks.
For Erin and i, i had plenty of Welch’s sparkling grape juice on hand (both red and white) which later sparked the conversation that they actually make sparkling grape juice with 100% juice. But we also had Heineken (? sp), our full bar downstairs, cokes, root beers, ginger ale, and my mom made her famous southern sweet tea. After munching a bit, some of us even decided to make root beer floats.
Nathan woke at about 6:30 and he and Alexander played wonderfully together for the rest of the night. They had a blast. Neither of them ate much because of all the excitement, but they ended up sitting on the couch watching Polar Express and going through two mini-bags of popcorn and lots of apple juice!
We hung out for a while before starting our Scrabble game. David and Jaime (Erin’s hubby) both said they would just “watch” but ended up helping us and actually playing more than we did! It was a fun game. I had high score followed by my mom and then Erin. My stepdad, Joe, didn’t quite break 100.
Then, Season, her dad and mom showed up around 9:45 pm and the place really got festive. We ate all over again and continued playing. Then after the game we played a few rounds of Charades. Before you know it, it was nearly midnight. David had taken a very tired Nathan upstairs to change his 5 pound diaper that was full of pee. I don’t think i’d changed him since he woke up from his nap….oops! Anyway, here we were rushing him out of the tub at like 11:58 to rush downstairs and toast with everyone.
Everyone made their phone calls to family, friends, etc. and headed out shortly after midnight. David, n8 and i were exhausted but glad we had such great friends and family to share the night with! 🙂
