Today I attended a consignment sale event in our area. I was actually there to promote my business and meet other moms to share what a fabulous resource it is! Anyhoo, I have been so amazed at how these moms come in with their double strollers all geared up with Starbucks in hand, tennis shoes + comfy tracksuits [which by the way, I am convinced originated in good ‘ol JoCo] ready to take on the plethora of shopping that awaits them.
They’re greeted with the first part of the sale – the toys. I was so irritated that the event’s producers actually had toys sectioned off labeled Girls Toys and Boys Toys. It irritated me because although I don’t have girls, I know that if I did, I would certainly expose them to Legos, Tinkertoys, plastic lawn mowers, wagons, and even [often lead-laced] toy cars. In the girls’ section you can pretty well imagine what was there. Dolls, dolls, and…. oh, yeah, more dolls. There was the occasional princess costume and playhouse castle. Anyway, this whole separation of toys by gender really got to me. But, not enough to make me stay away, sillies! I managed to come home with a cool acoustic guitar, Rubicks cube, and wooden blocks for the kids. They loved everything. I got a good deal. Everyone happy.
It was fun people watching during the sale event and I imagine it’s only going to get better at tomorrow’s sale. Starting at one o’clock in the afternoon through closing (5 p.m.) is going to be half off the already garage sale-like prices. I’ll try and put away some of my favorites and hope no one grabs them before I can get them at half-off.
