I am so irritated by some of the driving I witnessed today. Not only am I fearful for other children, but for my own as they grow and will eventually be riding bikes or possibly walking to school someday soon. The behavior I witnessed today was so ridiculously careless that it just made me think of how every day drivers – the general public – are potentially endangering the lives of kids and sooner or later, may end up being a tragic news headline.
I was going to pick up N from pre-k and saw a school bus dropping off a few students just up the street from the school and it clearly had its stop signs out on the side of the window and there were kids getting out. Of course I stopped, even though i was in a hurry to pick him up. And there, zooming by me, was a minivan who thought she didn’t need to stop and she zoomed past me. Grrr…it’s times like that I wish there were cops around in school zones.
Then, on the way back from picking him up, we went through our neighborhood school zone, which is also a very busy area. I slowed down upon entering the school zone – it was flashing 35 mph. As I slowed, I looked in my rearview mirror expecting to see the same of the Acura behind me but nooooo, she too went around me and zoomed past through the school zone. This is so irritating and completely unnecessary and unacceptable.
Is this happening where you drive?
