Blogher Blues.

After reading my fellow blogger buddy, Miss Lori's post about becoming a green-eyed Blogher, I decided that it would only be fitting (and rather cathartic) for me to compose a similar post.

Sure, I'm a little bummed about not going (again) this year to Blogher, but in retrospect this has been such a fab year of opportunities for me that I truly have nothing to complain about!  I have, however, felt at least just a tad bit jealous at all the chatter, posts, tweets, and excitedness plaguing the Twitterverse, blogosphere, and the internet in general these past few weeks.  I mean, what mom blogger DOESN'T want to spend a weekend full of engaging with the bloggers you love most, endless refills from an orange juice carafe, and dinners out with other moms sans kids? Sign me up!  Oh and did I mention it's in New York? I haven't been to that city since my 8th grade Drama Club trip!  I could certainly use a hot slice of Sbarro pizza or some shopping time in Soho.

But here are my little gems to focus on — the most A-MAZ-ING mini-conference on the topic of branding and blogging hosted by the Build-a-Bear Workshop in June.  Wow did I learn a ton at this event and walk away with the most grateful heart ever!

Then there are the countless number of fabulous product reviews I've been had the priviledge of doing!  We regularly receive great swag here on our doorstep and my family and I are grateful to those companies entrusting me with their brand message!  (Read: I'd love to review your product & promote you at Blogher if you're looking for a blogger to sponsor!)

And lastly, the recent gig with Parents.com  I've had the pleasure of working on all summer.  It's been fun working as their latest Online Community Advocate and helping build a social media strategy to promote their online community and networks!

So here's wishing all of you Blogher attendees safe and fun travels!  Enjoy your time in the Big Apple and come back to share all about it! I'll be following all the Blogher buzz in hopes of getting an idea on how to best plan for next year! So hoping to be there!

So what if a company sends you something to promote and it’s horrible? Do you just not blog about it or do you try and find something nice to say about it? I had that problem and I am glad I didn’t agree to anything before I saw what it was that I was going to be blogging about. I could have found some nice things to say, but it wouldn’t have been true to what I really want to do. How do you handle that?

Never, Nina. I never make up something nice to say. And companies who connect bloggers with products will definitely tell you that if you truly don’t like a product they want to know about that too! AFter all, that IS a review! Instead what I’ve done is let the person who sent me the product kindly know that I didn’t think it was a good fit for my readers and that I would be happy to donate the item to a local charity on their behalf. Politely excusing yourself from completing the product review is probably what they would want as well instead of making up something to write about. Hope this helps!
