Wow.  Tomorrow is the first day of school after a VERY short summer!  My kids are so excited and I must admit that although I may not be ready, I am certainly very excited for them.  We're gearing up for Wednesday morning and going to enjoy our last day of summer celebrating.

One of the great things my kids think is so cool is being able to eat lunch at school.  And in light of this, I thought I'd share with you my top 5 essentials that I've found make lunch packing easy.  I've looked around and done lots of research and comparisons – both online and in stores – and have come up with these 5 items that I think will make your job of packing school lunches SO much easier!

1.  Fresh snack pack reusable bags

What I love about these is the fact that it alleviates you having to buy (and waste) those plastic zipper baggies!  They come in two sizes – one large size that easily fits a sandwich and then one smaller size for sides like chips or grapes.  I have both sizes and just love how well they hold up.

2.  EasyLunchboxes.com containers & cooler bags

This will be our second year using this lunch container system and I am just overjoyed that I now get to pack using my EasyLunchboxes containers for TWO kids!  What do I love about these?  For starters, I love that you receive several containers as part of the set which makes it super affordable if you are using it for more than one child.  I also love that they are made from safe, eco-friendly materials and that they have nice sized dividers to hold everything your kiddo(s) would possibly want in a lunch!  They make it so easy to make lunch fun and whimsical.  Just check out my son's special Valentine's lunch last school year.

3.  Star Wars sandwich cutters

I am so excited to finally be able to use these this school year!  I bought them when they were on a great sale and think I got them at a steal of a deal!  My kids LOVE Star Wars so I can't really go wrong with these.  If your child is interested in a particular theme or character, it would be great to find shaped cutters that they could get excited about for lunch!

4.  Thermos food jar

This has come in handy for sending mac 'n cheese, nuggets, and even leftover pasta for a warm school lunch!  I love that it truly does keep food warm for a good 5 hours, and it fits GREAT inside the EasyLunchboxes cooler bag, too!  They come in a variety of designs and themes, so find one your child can get excited about!

5.  Silicone cupcake molds

These are a great alternative to using baggies to keep small food items and snacks stored in containers.  They're reusable and come in a multitude of themes for different occassions.  It's just another way to keep things fun and interesting all while trying to make lunch fun for kids during their busy school days.

So those are my favorites for making school lunches fun!  What are some of your lunch-making tips?

I’m an adult, but I love the Fresh Snack Packs, although I seriously discolored one from carrots, but it’s now just my carrot pack 🙂
