Valentine fun: LEGO inspired Valentines, Heart Shaped Lunch, iPad Valentine’s Day Card Box for Kids.

With my birthday this past weekend, we did not have time to get started on the kids’ valentines for school.  So, I dedicated my entire day yesterday (Monday) to cranking these babies out and the kids helped me after school.  Overall they were super easy to do and the kids loved how they turned out (so did I!).

I used this fun LEGO candy mold for the big blocks and the LEGO minifigure ice cube tray for the choco-LEGO-dudes.  Scrumptious AND fun!  These are the best buys I’ve made in the baking accessories category.  We will use these for endless food-and-LEGO fun with my boys!

Here’s what the actual card on top reads:

Vday

Yes, Nathan came up with that greeting with just a little help from me.  He was cool with so I was too.

**UPDATE:  Due to a reader’s request, you can now download the printable for this LEGO Valentine card topper right from here!  Simply print, cut, and fold over in half then have your kiddo sign their name!

I did find that to crank out 48 of the LEGO building blocks, you need about 2 standard bags of candy melts and the choco-LEGO dudes only required one bag which made about the same amount.  Both of the molds were easy to use and work with and each piece popped out clean after I put them in the freezer for just a few minutes.  I highly recommend the little squeeze bottles to use to get the melted candy into the mold.  This just simplifies everything for about a buck!  That’s not too much to ask!

And in keeping with our usual tradition, I packed them a fun Valentine lunch:

But what I’m most excited to hear about is how William ended up liking his Valentine’s Day box to collect his cards from his friends.  This is what we finally settled on:

And yes, peeps, while I *may* occasionally be awesome (at least that’s what my kids tell me), I did NOT come up with this idea myself.  I snagged it from Living Locurto (one of my fave blogs)!

Happy heart day everyone!  XOXO!!

  5. Thanks for the topper idea. I used candy lego blocks (you can build with them!!!) and candy melt minifig in the molds and a variation on your topper for my homeschooled boys first ever Valentine’s day party – everyone adored them!!

  6. Hi there,
My daughter is giving mini figs to her classmates this year and I love this topper for the package. Any chance you could share an editable version of this? I would love to shrink it down to fit the mini fig package better, and get 4 to a page.
    Thanks!!

  7. Hi Amy! That is so awesome…I’d love to see how they turn out. Feel free to share a photo of them completed over on my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/mommypalooza.
Per your request, below I am sharing the original Microsoft Word document that I used to create the topper. I hope this helps you with what you are creating. Enjoy!

  8. I’m getting bubbles in the mold so they are popping out with incomplete circles on the top, any suggestions? I’m using melting wafers from Michaels…

  9. Katy,
I’m not sure why that is happening. Maybe make sure before putting the contents into the mold, that there are no bubbles. I think I might have used a toothpick to stir each piece up before it set. I hope you figure it out soon. Thanks! 🙂

  10. Katy – just tap the mold on the counter a few times and all the bubbles should rise to the top and pop and you won’t have any left in the molds

  11. Oh I love that! “You’re a friend I’ll never LEGO of!” SO CUTE!! I don’t think I can make chocolates for our school (I do have the mold!) but I could run to the LEGO store and bet a tub full of LEGO bricks for cheaper than the chocolate!!

  12. That is such a cute idea!! My nephew loves LEGOs and these toppers will be great for his school Valentines. I think we will take the easy way out though and use the LEGO shaped candy bricks from the candy store!
