The past few days our family room has been a little out of sorts with the Olympics having taken over our tv and floor. It has been so fun {moreso than I've ever imagined} to watch this year's Olympics from London. Seeing how excited my boys are about watching swimming, diving, gymnastics, archery, kayaking, rowing, basketball, and all the other wonderful sports has been exciting for me as a mom! I love the conversations we are having about being proud of our country and sportsmanship and about hard work. And dreams. There are the talks we have about dreams, goals, and aspirations.
Talking to them about how hard these young men and women have worked and trained for many years but that they are ordinary people just like them, has made them realize that they can achieve their dreams too. Whether it means Olympic medals, or spelling bees or Lego creations — whatever they set out to do I hope to instill in them the belief and pride in one's self that all of these things take.
It's hard to watch these Olympic games and learn more about the athletes and NOT be moved by their stories. For example, I was so impressed with swimmer Missy Franklin and even tweeted that young ladies like her make me want to have a daughter {and that's saying a lot}! Her parents have done an amazing job in guiding and nurturing her into the champion of a person and athlete she is today.
Speaking of champions, check out my little athletes. My kids have been imitating the Olympic games. Check out this funny video of some of their antics!
