Growing up, reading was always stressed as such an important subject in school.  I’m happy to say that now, as a mom, I am carrying on that philosophy with my own kids.  One of the things that I love about my kids’ school is that they stress early reading habits from the moment kids set foot as students there.  My 3rd grader has a book log that he is required to fill out each day for his weekly reading.  20 minutes a day is all it takes.  It has been a great way for my hubs and I to stay on top of his reading and hold him accountable for it each day.

I am so thrilled about LeapFrog’s new Reading Month Page.  You can get tips, activities, videos, and more fun ideas to get your child reading.  LeapFrog is hoping to raise awareness of the importance of reading with your child 20 minutes a day to help kids reach their potential.

Recently, I had the opportunity to review some of the wonderful and engaging products from the LeapFrog line.

I’m happy to report that my first grader, William, was really into the Tag Reading System and he thought it was quite cool to use.  The system is not only a cool gadget that kids of all ages will love to work with, but the books that are compatible with it offer games and other neat features all while reading along.  Yes, even my 9 year-old was pretty interested in how it all worked.

Studies show that the more children read, the better readers they become.  In one study, children who read 20 or more minutes per day scored in or above the 90th percentile; those who read less than 10 minutes scored below the 75th percentile. {Source:  NICHD (2000). And now you can take the Read to Succeeed pledge and help instill that love of reading with your kids.  Visit the LeapFrog Reading Month Campaign page to find out more.  Also, click here to save you $3 off Tag products purchased through the LeapFrog site.

Growing up i always loved reading and I’ve tried to instill that love for reading into my girls. One of their favorite times we spend together is getting to read a book before bed. They each get to pick one book and we all cuddle together.
