You would think after 3 kids I'd have this whole "parenting" thing down, but it's amazing how quickly you forget all the ages and stages your baby will go through.  My current parenting challenge has to do with my baby starting solid foods and transitioning our routines to accomodate it.

He's just now a little over 6 months and I have to say is and easy baby who is taking to starting solid foods quite well.  We've given him everything from rice and oatmeal cereal, to a few veggies like spinach and peas, and even yummy fruits like mango and apricots.  My other kids love that they can take turns feeding their baby brother and I love that I have the help! One thing about this new phase though, is that there can be a lot to remember when getting baby ready for solid foods.  The following are a few tips that can be helpful to keep in mind:

  • Stock up on plenty of bibs and Huggies® Natural Care Wipes with Triple Clean layers to minimize baby messes during feeding time.  I prefer to use wipe-clean bibs rather than cloth ones because, well, I'm not exactly a huge fan of doing laundry unnecessarily!  What I love about the Huggies® wipes is that they come in quite handy for wiping baby's hands and face while also being great to use on surfaces.  They're great to use on high chairs, tables, and countertops and gentle on baby’s skin, while still thick enough to
    clean the mess.
  • Remember to keep offering baby foods multiple times, even those that he may show no interest in.  Repetition is key, as it can take some time for them to build up their palate and be ready to enjoy a variety of flavors.
  • Minimize distractions at feeding time.  I try to avoid putting my baby on his high chair {which is one of those that attaches to our kitchen table} until after my other kids are done eating.  This helps me focus on feeding just my baby and helps keep his focus on eating and not the crazy shenanigans that my other boys sometimes engage in around the dinner table.
  • Take cues from your baby to gauge whether or not he is full and has had enough to eat.  Don't overdo it when first introducing baby to solid foods.  It's important to feed baby then be done as soon as they are so they don't get fussy while sitting during feeding time.

It's amazing how fast babies change and grow and what little balls of energy they quickly become.  And speaking of energy, in her latest webisode Zuleyka Rivera, Huggies spokesperson, talks about how much energy her sweet Sebastian has.

And of course, now that my baby is starting on solid foods, one of the things I'm grateful for is that I have Huggies on hand.  Huggies® Snug & Dry Diapers with NEW SureFit Design help provide 12 hours of leakage protection — a must during the night! They also have a unique flexible waistband for all-around, more conforming gap-free fit.  This will be such a must-have in a diaper when my sweet boy starts getting mobile and crawling!
