{Disclosure: This is part of a compensated
campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and P&G. As always, all opinions expressed are my own. No one is the boss of me!}
Many of us know someone who has been personally affected by breast cancer. For me, that person is my maternal aunt. But she’s not merely another statistic, rather she’s a survivor! I know that her winning the battle has a lot to do with early detection. Did you know the earlier breast
cancer is detected, the higher the survival rate? In fact, according to the National Cancer Institute, when detected during the early
(localized) stage – the five year survival rate is 98 percent. Those are great odds!
The 2013 P&G Breast Cancer Awareness campaign will
help save lives through a $500,000 donation to the National Breast Cancer Foundation (NBCF), as well as by
educating not only women, but the men in their lives, about the importance of
early detection, while also providing the tools by which to create an early
detection plan.
What’s really mind-blowing for me is the realization that while breast cancer rates
are lower among non-Caucasian women, death rates are higher among African
American and Latina women. The National Cancer Institute reports that every hour and a half a Latina woman dies of breast cancer in the United
States. Can you believe that?! That is all the more reason why we need to encourage the Latinas in our family and friends network to get regular mammograms! P&G supports the NBCF in its commitment to save lives by providing mammograms for those
in need. The National Breast
Cancer Foundation provides free mammograms for women in need as part of their
mission. You can see if they have a partner hospital in your
area at: http://breastcan.cr/Jb2IZ8. If
there is not a hospital in your area, check with your
local hospital. They may have a program in place that can get you the
mammogram you need.
And, to support the efforts of P&G in their effort to spread the word about the importance of early detection, you can purchse their pink products like the ones you see below, and feel good knowing that you are helping support such a great cause.
