Thursdays are typically super busy nights for us with piano lessons right after school and most of the time the last thing I want to do is come home and prepare dinner for the six of us. So, last Thursday we decided to take the kids out to Houlihan’s as a treat. It’s always been one of those places we can all find something we love to eat. In fact, we’re long-time fans of their Sunday brunch (which I believe is at select locations only) because it offers so much variety. One new thing I noticed when we visited most recently is their new lighter fare menu where all of the dishes are 590 calories are less.
Houlihan’s Restaurant always has such a great variety for the hubs and I as well as the kids. I love that they cater to every taste bud and budget. That’s why I was pretty excited to try something from their new lighter fare menu.
Truth be told, I could have ordered just about any one of the choices, but I finally decided on the Lemon & Herb Grilled Chicken. At only 550 calories, it’s full of flavor and features tuscan white beans, organic kale-spinach-chard blend, roasted artichokes, tomatoes and herbed broth along with the lemon & herb grilled chicken. Now, before this, I had NEVER tried kale but am a huge fan of artichokes and tomatoes, so I was anxious to try the dish. It was absolutely the best combination of tastes and totally hit the weeknight dinner craving I was having!
Houlihan’s has awesome kids’ menu offerings even for the pickiest eaters. But what I truly love about what Houlihan’s does for the kids is the yummy plates of carrots sticks and ranch they bring out just before the meal!
After their nice little appetizer, each of the kids sunk their teeth into a delicious dish as well. Jacob loved his grilled chicken sandwich and side of fries. And I should know that it was full of flavor since I tasted just for kicks.
The other two kids ordered pasta alfredo and the chicken strips – both with strawberries for the side dish selection.
As for my hubs, instead of opting for something off the lighter fare menu, he went for a yummy burger and fries — but gobbled it up before I had a chance to snap a pic! One of the coolest things about the Houlihan’s regular and kids menus is that they offer so many choices for side dishes.
And as if amazingly good menu options weren’t enough, the kids were SO excited when our server announced they’d be getting ice cream! Yeah, who cares if it’s 30 degrees outside – they were getting ice cream! On a school night! What’s not to love?
So the next time you’re in the mood for something delicious, I highly recommend checking out Houlihan’s new lighter fare menu. You’ll not only love that each menu option is less than 590 calories, but you’ll love that it’s prepared with fresh and nutritive ingredients. We can’t wait to all go back and do brunch there soon, too.
