The Great American Milk Drive

I'm beyond THRILLED to be serving as the Kansas City, Missouri #MilkDrive Spokesperson!

Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization, is launching the Great American Milk Drive, the first nationwide program designed to encourage consumers to donate nutrient-rich milk to hungry families. The drive will launch today, April 2, in New York City at one of the country’s largest food banks, City Harvest, along with simultaneous events in 9 other markets around the country. One of these locations is right here in Kansas City, Missouri – my metro area.

The Great American Milk Drive is made possible by the nation’s dairy farmers and milk companies, and dairy farmers, will make it easy for people to buy milk online at www.milklife.com/give (or text to a special code) and donate it to a food pantry in their zip code for as little as $5 at a time. Every dollar collected will go to purchasing and delivering milk to hungry families through the Feeding America network.

I was saddened to learn recently that hunger impacts 1 in 6 Americans, including 12.5 million families who do not have access to adequate nourishment to help them reach their full potential. Feeding America has been unable to meet the demand for milk due to the lack of donations since canned goods and other non-perishable items are more likely to be donated.

But, I know and appreciate how essential milk is to a child's diet. With 9 essential nutrients including 8 grams of high-quality protein per 8 oz glass, milk enhances the nutritional value of your morning meal, whether in a glass, cup or bowl. My kids enjoy it as a way to get protein in the morning since we are usually pinched for time as we head out for the day. I can feel good about knowing that each 8 ounce glass contains 8 grams of protein – even more than an egg.

I hope you'll join me in learning more about the #MilkDrive opportunity to help others. To learn more about nourishing our nation, connect with Feeding America on:
