I still remember finding out Toys R Us was closing! I remember thinking “Oh, crap! I need to have my kids use up that gift card they still have from their recent birthdays!” My kids were truly disappointed! When I first became a mom, Toys R Us was where it was at for me. I remember always taking my kids there. We’d go just to window shop or get ideas. I also remember buying my oldest two boys their matching race car beds there. My mom and stepdad helped us load them into the car and bring them home. We still have those beds. 4 boys and a baby girl has slept in those beds. In fact, my daughter still sleeps in one of them (the other is stored in the basement, currently). I was really sad to hear that Toys R Us was closing because I felt like it was the end of an era. For years, Toys R Us was the ultimate shopping mecca for many kids, including mine.
But, that’s all about to change! Just today, October 2nd, there’s been a flurry of news announcements that Toys R Us finance peeps have actually CANCELED the bankruptcy auction that was set to take place and have made plans to REVIVE THE BRAND – a.k.a., REOPEN! What?!!! That’s cray-cray! Just in time for Christmas?! It’d be a Christmas miracle if we get Toys R Us back for the holiday season! Word on the street is that Toys R Us has put forth a plan that says they will create a “new, operating Toys “R” Us and Babies “R” Us branding company that maintains existing global license agreements and can invest in and create new, domestic, retail operating businesses.”
I can’t even tell you how excited I am – as I am sure many kids will be – to hear the news that Toys R Us might be coming back to life! It’s all got me thinking — what changes will the brand make this time around? And will Toys R Us decide to only be an online retailer, having only online stores and ordering? What do you think they will do differently? What changes are you hoping to see if Toys R Us indeed does come back?
