It's summertime, which means one thing is certainly going on in your neighborhood, and it's people taking care of the front of their homes. With the sun permitting your grass to flourish and your flowers to blossom, some cutting and pruning is necessary. But your flowers aren't the only part of the exterior of your home that could do with a little overhaul.

Garden 

By devoting half a day to the front of your garden you can make a world of difference to your curb appeal. Simply run the lawnmower around, turn over the soil and straighten up your garden border edges. Cut back unruly shrubs, and ruffle the flowers to shed any deadheads. To switch up your garden a little, why not invest in some potted plants or trees (such as olive or bay trees) and place them either side of your front door to create an elegant entrance. Equally, you could fix up some hanging baskets to brighten up the empty wall space either side of your windows.

Roof

As with most things, the exterior of your home is prone to deteriorate and lose its durability. Roofs, in particular, are made to put up a good fight against the weather. However, they are not built to last forever. If your roof is missing a few tiles, or it's beginning to look a bit worse for wear, you could consider contacting a roofing contractor for a quote on replacing the hat to your home. It would certainly add curb appeal, value to your home, and improve your home's resistance against the harsh elements in anticipation of the colder, winter months.

 

Windows

As the season's change so do your exterior home design trends and tastes. Which is why the PVC window frames you once adored are now gradually being pushed out and replaced by your fellow neighbors for modern alternatives – such as dark grey window frames. Changing the windows to your home will make a significant impact on your house's attractiveness and the value of your home. However, you should be mindful that the windows you choose are in keeping with the style of the rest of your home. For instance, in a modern home, traditional sash windows will look out of place. Equally, on a traditional country home, black framed windows will look harsh against the backdrop of an older home.

Front Door

There a few avenues you can take for overhauling your front door. If the door you have is in good condition, you could freshen up its existing color or paint it a brand new color – however, you should make sure it's not too drastic and different from your neighbors front doors. On top of this, you could change the doors hardware, such as the letterbox, handle, and knocker. Alternatively, you could replace your door for a different style. Either, or will dramatically change the entrance to your home.
