Whether you’re stuck because of the weather, have made no plans, or haven’t got enough to get something started because you’ve got plans coming up – it can be tedious when you’re at home with nothing to do. We’ve all got things that help to entertain us on a daily basis, but even those things can grow boring from time to time and it’s good to switch it up to help you feel refreshed.
Your rainy days don’t have to be filled with boredom; they could even be something you look forward to if you’ve got some activities prepared or set aside for when you’ve got nothing else to do to pass the time.
Learning new hobbies
Picking up a new hobby or skill isn’t something you’ve got to put all of your time into all of a sudden. You don’t have to master anything overnight, and there’s no sense in rushing it if you haven’t got the time to commit to it. But if you’re sitting at home with no way to keep busy, developing a new skill is a wonderful way to spend your time. A few hours here and there can make for some great learning opportunities, even if the end result isn’t something spectacular. Doing a few doodles, singing, painting – anything that you’re interested in. It’s important to remember that you don’t need to be good at something to consider it a success.
Whenever you’ve got the time, sit down and put some time into your hobby, and before you know it your free time or downtime that you were previously looking to rid yourself of has turned into an interesting part of your life.
Do some reading
There’s no better way to pass the time than taking yourself into someone else’s imagination and doing some reading. Even if you only find yourself with 20-30 minutes here and there, it could be a great moment to pick up a book. Many of us barely find the time to read, and it can be such a relaxing way to both passes the time and broaden our knowledge or imagination. Whether you’re reading some Easter bible verses or picking up an interesting new fiction you heard about and have been meaning to dig into.
Reading is a hobby that many people around the world enjoy on a daily basis, but you don’t have to be an avid reader, or binge-read books to enjoy it. You can spend a few minutes every day, and from there you might find it turns into a more prominent part of your daily routine.
Try out meal prep
Got a day coming up this week where you’ve got absolutely nothing to do? Well, it could be a great opportunity for you to save some time during some of your busy days by trying out meal prep. Not only is meal prep a great way to save yourself time on the other days of the week, but it’s ideal if you’re counting your calories and trying to limit yourself.
Take the day to get all of your ingredients together for your upcoming meals, and cook it all in the course of a few hours. So long as you’ve got the containers to keep it all refrigerated, breakfast, lunch, and/or dinner are sorted for the next few days. No more having to cook while tired, and you didn’t have to spend your downtime bored.
Watch documentaries
Worried that your time spent doing nothing is going to feel like you’ve wasted it, but don’t particularly have the energy to commit to something big? Well, you don’t need to work at something for hours on end, you could simply spend that time learning about things that you’re interested in.
There are plenty of places you can find documentaries, whether you check out free ones on YouTube, or seek out others on subscription services. They’re a nice way to spend your free time, especially if you learn something interesting about the things you like.
Clean out your clutter
It’s easy to put off your more tedious tasks until you have the time, but then when that time rolls around there are other things you would rather do. The issue with that is, it’s going to be sitting in the back of your mind until you get it done. It takes away from the enjoyment of your everyday life, and you’ll find that you feel much more at ease when you don’t have these things nagging at you – even if they’re not your top priority.
