It can be tricky to choose kids' toys by age range, especially as a new parent or when buying them as a gift. So, here is a quick and easy guide to the best ones to consider by age.

Stimulate Creativity Up to 6 Years

As children phase out of the toddler years and into their development stages, toys that help them with creativity are a great option. This is when kids really begin to play and use their imagination to help them understand the world around them. Action figures, dollhouses, and collectibles such as LOL Surprise toys are great options. This age range is also a good time for helping with fine motor skills with toys such as ride-along cars and radio-controlled vehicles.

Toddlers Love Pretend Play

Toddlers love to use their imagination by pretending to be someone else, like a fairy princess or an astronaut. Toys that encourage these are highly recommended for this age range. Dressing up is a great way for kids of this age to boost their imagination. And softer toys such as dolls and figures will bring them hours of fun. This is also a great time to introduce children to technology with tablets and video game systems designed for younger kids and toddlers.

Toys by Age Range 1-2 Require Development

When children are between 1 and 2 years old, they just love to put things in their mouths. As such, there are a lot of choking hazards from some toys. So it is recommended that you give them toys that don't have any attachments, or moving parts, and are bigger than their mouths. Toys with rounded edges are also a good idea. Some of the best toys for this age include light-up interactive board books, and exploratory toys like the World Explorer Exersaucer.

Help them Stand at Around 1 Year

At this age, a baby really doesn't know what a toy is. All they want to do is get up and move around. So toys that help develop muscle strength and motor skills are essential. At this age, it is vital that any toys are free from sharp edges or things they can pull off and easily swallow. Building blocks, stacking toys, and things they can use to help them stand or crawl are better for this age range. Stuffed animals are also great because they are softer and often very durable.

Newborns Require Sensory Toys

The world is brand new to a newborn baby. And their senses are only beginning to develop. They can't even see fully until around 5 months old. But their sensory development begins immediately. Therefore, toys for this are recommended. These include soft toys with colors and textures. But also toys that make sounds like rattles. You can also place mobiles above the crib (never in it) to keep the baby stimulated. Also, try not to place toys in the baby's crib either.

Summary

Selecting children's toys by age range is vital to avoid something bad happening. Newborns need sensory toys, younger children require developmental toys, and toddlers love to pretend.
