Paint your house

Over time your house will have weathered many storms and because of that, may be looking a little worn down and tired. Giving your home a lick or two of paint will revive it, making it look much more inviting as you pull up after a long day of work. Take the time to fill in any cracks or holes with an outdoor hole filler before you paint so that the finish is even more seamless.

There are so many colours you could go for, and a few tins of paint isn’t going to cost you much either. If you’re not a fan of going up a ladder too high, either ask friends and family for help or buy an extended roller so that you can paint from a height you’re comfortable with.

Pull weeds and trim your lawn

Weeds can be an absolute pain to deal with, especially when they pop up out of nowhere without any warning. But, they can put a dampener on how your home looks and feels as you arrive home. It might be worth getting some professional weed control if it’s something that’s getting out of hand.

But for now, pull up the weeds and take the time to trim your lawn. Don’t forget to check between paving slabs and underneath any potted plants. If you do decide to use a weed killer, be careful because it may damage your lawn too, so make sure you follow the carton instructions. You’ll be surprised at how much of a difference those two simple tasks will make to how your front garden looks.

Add ambient lighting

If you’re someone that absolutely loves sitting out in the garden even when it’s dark, then this is a must for you. You could opt for wall lights to mount to the side of your house to create ambient lighting, or you could even consider spotlights in the floor of your decking for a really nice finish.

Alternatively, you could choose to use solar panelled lights. They’re really inexpensive to buy, they add charm to your garden, and they don’t use any of the electricity in your home because they charge from the sunlight. If you wanted, you could have some solar panelled lights leading down your pathway to your house so you’ve got plenty of light, even if you arrive home in the dark.

Jet wash your driveway and garden path

Lots of things can cause dirt, grease and mud to accumulate on your drive and garden path, and it makes your home look dull and uninviting. Pretty much everyone knows of someone that’s got a jet washer, so borrow one so that you can clear the grease and grime away and bring it back up to new. You’ll be surprised at how much better it will instantly look!

If you’ve got a garden path with broken slabs, then consider replacing them to make things look even better. They’re pretty inexpensive to buy, and they’re really easy to lay once you get the hang of it. If you want to be really creative, why not buy slabs of all different shapes, sizes and colours and have a go at a mosaic design on your front path? If there’s one thing that’s for sure, there won’t be another one like it around!

Revamp your porch

If you’ve got a porch, then why not spruce that up too? It’s the first point of entry to your home, and the last thing you want is for it to let you down when you’ve worked so hard on improving everything else. So, why not liven it up with a lick of paint or wood stainer to instantly revive your front garden?

If you’ve got the space, why not add some seating to enjoy sitting out with friends and family watching the sun set? You can add some pretty lights, a table, and even surround yourself with hanging baskets full of pretty flowers.

You might not want to spend any money on new furniture, so why not upcycle what you’ve already got? You could use any leftover paint you have in your shed (or from painting your house) to spruce it up. Simply add a couple of cushions and you’ll be well away!

Replace or paint your front door

Finally, like with most things outside of the home, your front door might be looking a bit battered and out of date. While replacing your front door isn’t the cheapest of home improvements, it might be something to consider if you can afford to do it. Not only will it look fantastic, but you’ll be making sure that your home is safe and secure too.

However, if replacing your front door entirely isn’t an option at the moment, then you could consider painting it. If you’ve stuck with neutral and plain colours for your house and porch, then why not consider going a bright colour with your front door? It’ll add charm and charisma to your home, and it’ll definitely feel much more welcoming.

As you can see, improving your home and front garden doesn’t have to cost the earth! Use these tips to make your home more welcoming!
